ChatGPT and Corporate Training

We are in the early stages of a revolution. What does ChatGPT and its ilk portend for the world of corporate training? Will this technology and the others come to upend corporate L&D and compliance training? A better question is: how? So I asked ChatGPT and here are its replies:

How will ChatGPT impact corporate training?

ChatGPT has the potential to revolutionize corporate training in a number of ways:

  • Personalized Training: ChatGPT can provide personalized training experiences for employees based on their skills and knowledge level. The AI model can assess an individual's proficiency and adjust the training content accordingly, ensuring that everyone is getting the information they need to perform their job effectively.
  • On-demand Learning: ChatGPT can provide employees with on-demand access to training materials and information. Instead of having to attend scheduled training sessions, employees can use ChatGPT to ask questions and get answers in real-time, at their own pace.
  • Increased Engagement: ChatGPT's conversational interface can make training more engaging and interactive, helping to keep employees motivated and focused.
  • Improved Retention: By providing personalized, on-demand training that is engaging and interactive, ChatGPT can help to improve employee retention of the material being taught.
  • Cost Savings: ChatGPT can help to reduce the cost of corporate training by reducing the need for in-person training sessions, travel expenses, and instructional materials.

Overall, the use of ChatGPT in corporate training has the potential to provide organizations with a more efficient, effective, and engaging way to train their employees.

How will ChatGPT impact compliance training?

ChatGPT can have a significant impact on compliance training, which is an important aspect of many organizations' operations. Here are a few ways ChatGPT can help with compliance training:

  • Consistent and Up-to-date Information: ChatGPT can provide employees with access to the latest and most accurate information on compliance regulations and requirements, ensuring that everyone is up-to-date and informed.
  • On-demand Support: With ChatGPT, employees can get answers to their compliance-related questions in real-time, at any time, reducing the risk of non-compliance due to a lack of understanding or knowledge.
  • Personalized Training: ChatGPT can provide personalized training experiences for employees based on their specific roles and responsibilities, ensuring that each person is getting the information they need to meet their compliance obligations.
  • Improved Engagement: ChatGPT's conversational interface can make compliance training more engaging and interactive, helping to keep employees motivated and focused on the importance of compliance.
  • Better Record Keeping: ChatGPT can help organizations to track and record employee compliance training, providing a clear and auditable trail of who has completed the training and when.

Overall, ChatGPT can help organizations to improve their compliance training programs by providing employees with more accurate, up-to-date, and personalized information, and by making the training process more engaging and effective.

All this reminds me of what author John Naisbitt wrote in his book Megatrends. He makes the case (published in 1982) that the more technology infiltrates our lives, the more human intimacy we crave.

This is certainly true but it hasn’t happened. We have experienced a relentless onslaught of new technology since his prediction yet by most measures, human interaction has diminished. Marriage rates are down. Membership in religious and community organizations and unions is lower. I believe the reduction of connection is to our detriment.

Like the frog in the slowly heating water who doesn’t know it needs to jump out to survive, we may be reaching the boiling point. The introduction of new AI technologies may finally awaken us to what has become an urgent need to connect.

I think we corporate training and L&D professionals should do everything we can to make human connection happen. If your LMS doesn’t have the features for this, find one that does.

One last snippet from ChatGPT:

What did author Naisbitt mean by "high touch" in his book Megatrends?

In his book "Megatrends: Ten New Directions Transforming Our Lives," John Naisbitt introduced the concept of "high touch" to describe the trend towards a greater emphasis on personal interaction, empathy, and emotional engagement in a world increasingly dominated by technology and automation.

Naisbitt argued that while technology was creating more opportunities for remote communication and digital interactions, people were still seeking meaningful human connections and experiences. The "high touch" trend was characterized by a growing desire for face-to-face interactions, personalized service, and the use of technology to enhance, rather than replace, human relationships.

Naisbitt believed that the "high touch" trend would have a major impact on various aspects of society, including education, healthcare, business, and entertainment. He argued that as technology continued to advance, the value of human interaction would only become more apparent, leading to an increasing demand for "high touch" experiences.
